Brief Area Overviews

🎬 Hollywood & Universal Studios (10 hotels)

The neighborhood with the strongest tourist DNA in LA. The Metro B Line runs through here — step out at Hollywood/Highland station and you’re at the heart of the Walk of Fame, while one stop north takes you straight to Universal Studios. Attractions are densely packed and you can handle most of your itinerary on foot, making it doable without a rental car. Price range is wide, from TWD 4,800 to 12,000. The downside is that some streets have homeless presence at night — we recommend sticking to hotels between Highland Ave and La Brea Ave.

🏖️ Santa Monica & Beach Area (8 hotels)

Wake up to the sound of waves and step right onto the sand — if that’s the experience you’re after, Santa Monica is your home base. The Santa Monica Pier Ferris wheel, Venice Beach skate park, and Third Street Promenade shopping — this entire coastline is the essence of the California lifestyle. Room rates run higher (ocean-view rooms TWD 6,000–30,000), but the experience is priceless.

🏙️ Downtown LA (7 hotels)

Multiple Metro lines intersect here, making it easy to get anywhere. The Broad museum, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Grand Central Market, and LA Live are all within walking distance. This area has the widest range of options, from the TWD 5,000 citizenM to the TWD 25,000 Ritz-Carlton. Just be sure to avoid the Skid Row area.

💎 Beverly Hills & Koreatown (5 hotels)

Beverly Hills is synonymous with luxury shopping — Chanel, Gucci, and Prada line up along Rodeo Drive. Security is excellent, streets are pristine, and it feels like a completely different world from some Downtown blocks. Koreatown’s The LINE Hotel offers a totally different K-wave experience at a friendly price point with a vibrant nightlife scene.

Practical Information

Getting Around

  • Metro: LA Metro has expanded significantly in recent years. The B Line (Red) connects Hollywood and Downtown, while the Expo Line links Downtown to Santa Monica. Getting a TAP card is super convenient.
  • Rental Car: If your itinerary spans multiple areas or includes suburban destinations (like Malibu or Joshua Tree), renting a car gives you more freedom. But parking in Downtown and Santa Monica isn’t cheap ($30–50 per night).
  • Uber/Lyft: Uber is very convenient in LA — short rides typically run $10–20, a great middle ground between metro and rental car.

Safety

  • Hollywood Boulevard is lively during the day, but exercise caution east of Highland Ave at night
  • Never walk through Downtown’s Skid Row (east of San Pedro St, south of 5th St) at night
  • Santa Monica is generally safe overall; just be mindful of certain Venice Beach sections at night
  • Beverly Hills has excellent safety — nothing to worry about

Booking Tips

  • Compare both platforms: The same hotel often has different prices on Agoda and Booking — check both
  • Direct hotel websites: Some hotel chain member rates can be even lower (e.g., Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Honors)
  • Peak season surcharges: Prices can jump 1.5–2x during Christmas, Lunar New Year, and summer (June–August)
  • Free cancellation: Opt for rates with free cancellation whenever possible — LA itineraries often change due to traffic
  • Resort fees: Some hotels add a Resort Fee ($25–45 per night) — watch for this when booking
